Tricycle: The Thukdam Project

By The Healthy Minds Team

Dr. Richard Davidson and other researchers at the Center for Healthy Minds created the Thukdam Project to continue research on meditative states and their affects on the body post-mortem.

Under the instruction of His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama, Dr. Richard Davidson and other researchers at University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Center for Healthy Minds created “The Thukdam Project” to continue long-term research on meditative states and their affects on the body post-mortem.

“Thukdam, or thugs dam, in Tibetan, is an honorific meaning “one engaged in meditation. Thukdam is said to be a relatively rare state experienced in its fullness only by spiritual masters…

…The Thukdam Project combines the brain power of neuroscientists, forensic anthropologists, doctors, psychologists, philosophers, and teams of monk-researchers in India. An inaugural report, which Dr. Richard Davidson describes as the first-ever scientific study into thukdam, was published this January in the journal Frontiers in Psychology.”
