Healthy Minds Innovations has expanded the content available through its Healthy Minds app to include The Dalai Lama’s Guide to Happiness, which was developed in partnership with Ten Percent Happier.

This new content features the Dalai Lama, world-renowned neuroscientist Richie Davidson, experienced Zen meditation teacher and anthropologist Dr. Roshi Joan Halifax, and former ABC News anchor and journalist Dan Harris.

This exceptional collaboration offers free access to practices that have been cultivated and refined for thousands of years and are now being proven by science. It delivers practical content designed to appeal to anyone interested in exploring meditation and mindfulness as a means of improving their well-being and unlocking a healthier life.

The Dalai Lama’s Guide to Happiness includes ten lessons, each with a corresponding practice:

  • Happiness as a skill that can be trained
  • Cultivating attention to be less distracted
  • Becoming more self-aware
  • Exploring wise selfishness
  • Navigating self-criticism
  • Finding grounded compassion
  • Developing empathy for others
  • Finding connections with meaning
  • Contemplating death for appreciation of the present
  • Cultivating motivation for well-being

“When I met His Holiness in 1992, he challenged me to use the tools of modern neuroscience to study qualities such as kindness and compassion and on that day, I made a commitment to do everything in my power to help place these positive qualities on the scientific map,” said Davidson. “We’ve made great progress in demonstrating the effectiveness of well-being as a skill that improves lives and this opportunity to bring forward ancient teachings with modern commentary is incredible.”

“The headline out of this extraordinary conversation between modern science and ancient Buddhism is that the brain and the mind are trainable. In other words, happiness is not some unalterable factory setting. It’s actually a skill. It was a distinct honor to be part of this paradigm-shifting collaboration,” said Harris.
